‘hanged’ over

Filed under: good time girl — petiteanglaiseparis @ 11:36 am

My hair hurts. I used alcohol as an antidote to my habitual shyness at the ‘Paris blog-t-il?’ soirée held at the Entrepôt last night and am now feeling as if I may shatter into lots of small, dehydrated pieces if I move too quickly. I hope you will forgive me for the brevity of today’s post.

Over two hundred Parisian bloggers had signed up for the event, and the turnout was impressive. There were lots of MALES, which surprised me, as when I organised the expat blogmeet (remember that Eiffel tower poster which everyone thought I had doctored to look like a g-string on purpose?), it attracted an overwhelming majority of females. Mind you, some of the men were not wearing stickers showing the name of their blog and may just have been there hoping to seduce young bloggeuses.

I met lots of very nice people, caught up with a couple I already knew and had my picture taken with a very fetching and well-travelled teddy bear.

I only hope that the blogger who said he actually preferred seeing people’s avatars to meeting them in the flesh wasn’t referring specifically to me…

  1. Hmmm… do you think they’ll ever hold a ‘Provence Blog-til?’ But then again, why go, when all my favorite bloggers live in Paris? By the way, I saw some pictures on Nathan’s site and if you don’t mind me saying so, the whole event looks strangely calm. Is it the ‘Frenchies’ influence’?

As for drinking to cope with habitual shyness, I am sure I would have done the same thing… God, it’s gotta be scary metting people that know your innermost thoughts!

  2. No, quite the contrary my dear, but what a treat it would have been to be stared down by union-jack contacts!

  3. Sammy – well it wasn’t wild or anything. Music levels thankfully quite restrained so we didn’t have to shout. Just people having a few drinks and a-mingling… Nice atmosphere though.

  4. Okay, it was afterall a Wednesday night. Not that I am a ‘party girl’ or anything… quite the opposite.
    Alas petite, you DO mingle??

  5. Could you guys keep it down a little?

    My hair hurts.

Pleasure meeting you, Petite, by the way, and thanks for the comments. ;)

  6. Neat teddy placement!

I used to live opposite L’Entrepôt. It looks a lot warmer and less pretentious with so many people.

Looks like it was a good night out.

  7. My sympathies. My head hurts too, but that has nothing to do with having gone out last night and everything to do with the jackhammer they’re using outside. Ai.

  8. Looks like a nice, sociable evening!

That looks like the bear that Mr Bean used to take everywhere with him

  9. Did you read this piece about the prevalence of white male bloggers overall? Quite interesting. Also, I don’t know how into british politics you are, but I know you’re into blogging, and there’s QUITE the media storm over how this is the first “e-lection” (oh how do those journalists in the MSM come up with such witty words that capture the zeitgeist SO perfectly!) For more info, see perfect.co.uk. Of course, since you probably can’t look at a computer screen without the pink elephants showing up, this is more for commenters’ perusal.

  10. erm, I wish I’d known who CODB was BEFORE talking to him for half an hour. On the other hand, I probably would have been too shy if I’d known…

    Good gracious.

  11. I was very happy when I saw you subscribing.

Thanks for your presence, for the “advertising” on your blog. It was great having you to the party. I finally discovered the “dark” word of expatriate bloggers.

I hope to see you back for the second edition of “Paris Blogue-t-il ?” or for any other blogger event !

  18. It sounds like a great time was had by all. If I were still in Paris, I would have -had- to go. My old place was at 11, rue F-d-P and overlooked the courtyard at l’Entrepôt.

  20. EasyJetsetter: although white males seem to dominate the “top 100,” one study found that the majority of blogs are written by teenagers, and that the typical blog “is written by a teenage girl who uses it twice a month to update her friends and classmates on happenings in her life.”

  21. Michael – I linked to that study one of the first times I commented on petite anglaise. I’m just a geek about blogging culture and read all those kinds of things. I know that I’m a loser. (sorry to take up server space petite – but his site was down…)

  22. Nice to meet you, I’m NOT theses guys that you have said “Les vieux qui sont là que pour draguer” ;-)

  23. EasyJetsetter: I’m quite the geek myself, actually. We should get together sometime and trade tips. :)
